Mediterraneo - Mare di ponti, non mare di morti

La “Carta di Leuca” è un documento redatto e sottoscritto da centinaia di giovani provenienti da vari Paesi d’Europa e delle altre sponde del Mediterraneo, per dire “Non più muri, ma ponti. Basta con l’esclusione dell’altro e il respingimento di chi è diverso!”.

Oltre 150 giovani, fin dalla prima edizione, ad animare le giornate e per accogliere – ma anche integrare – chi raggiunge il nostro Paese alla ricerca di salvezza e di futuro. Un evento che vuole essere testimonianza del ruolo fondamentale dei corridoi umanitari, frutto del lavoro della Comunità Sant’Egidio, per consentire di raggiungere il nostro Paese a chi fugge dalle atrocità della guerra. Con il partenariato della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana, di Pax Christi, di Focsiv, di Migrantes, di Caritas Italiana e di altre realtà associative, ogni anno nella notte tra il 13 e il 14 agostosi parte dalla tomba di don Tonino Bello per un pellegrinaggio verso la Basilica Santuario di Santa Maria di Leuca.

Prima del cammino notturno, quattro giornate di incontro, di riflessione e di redazione della “Carta”, che si articolano attraverso interventi e lavoro comune ai “tavoli della convivialità”. Il documento, sintesi delle diverse culture, delle diverse sensibilità e anche delle diverse fedi religiose cui i giovani appartengono, diventa un appello che le Organizzazioni rivolgono ai decisori politici ed ai Governi, per costruire un futuro di Pace.

La #cartadileuca.1, edizione 2017, sarà dedicata alla fraternità.

Per don Tonino, l’Europa doveva essere una casa in cui Nord e Sud si aiutano, mentre l’attualità vede il cuore geopolitico dell’Europa spostato altrove, relegando il mar Mediterraneo a periferia irrilevante, quando non barriera insormontabile o – peggio – cimitero di speranze. Con scafisti e trafficanti di uomini che fanno affari sulla carne dei migranti in fuga da conflitti e miserie. Questo mare affascinante e tribolato è la regione del mondo dove convivono fin dall’inizio le tre religioni abramitiche (Ebraismo, Cristianesimo, Islam): la Carta di Leuca intende farsi strumento di questo sogno di convivenza, portabandiera di pace e portavoce di ogni possibile fraternità.

We declare that fraternity can rise only from the rediscovery of the faces. We start from the good news that the dividing wall has been knocked down, once and for all. For this reason today we can rediscover the faces that once we did not see. A bridge to every man and every woman, to the Iast and the excluded ones has been built. In each face a source of good is preserved to be discovered and valued, so that all diversity may be accepted and engraved on the new tables of the friendship’s law.

We declare our real contribution to the rising of brotherhood everywhere in the Mediterranean area, in order to promote everyone’s commitment in setting the table of solidarity. We hope that the sea, a piace of death today, may go back to being a sea of life: a table on which all peoples may offer their goods and their projects, their ideas and their talents, to achieve a fairer world.

We declare to do our best to make fraternity take shape with cooperation: to cooperate so that land and work, wealth and progress may open a new horizon of Peace for all.

Let’s make our voice heard by the governments of the Mediterranean Countries, so that they do not rise walls to protect themselves against those that are different and cause divisions out of fear, but they build bridges of solidarity and cooperation promoting the full integration. We believe in a future in which the hills of injustice may be smoothed and the way for an integral development oriented to each person’s happiness paved.

We declare that brotherhood is the result of mercy. We abandon every possibility of opportunism and claim to follow the logic of forgiving and cheering up. We recognize that forgiving is the right declension of the verb to love and only the true love, concretely experienced, is the criterion for the development of an integral humanism, universally acknowledged and shared.

For all these reasons

WE ASK powerful men of the World and each man and woman of goodwill:

1. the creation of new and wider humanitarian corridors supported by widespread acceptance and social inclusion;
   

2. to put an end on the arms trade and the human trafficking, opting for investments into tools for the integral human development and the right to live in peace in their own communities;
   

3. not to clip our wings, but to give us a reserve one to leave the port of fraternity and sail away for new travels towards a future full of hope! __
